Chapter 8

The rays of the morning sun caressed my face, and I stretched in bed, purring like a pampered cat. My husband moved, wrapping his hand around my waist and pressing me against his chest, his lips kissing my bare shoulder.

“I’m sorry, Emma. I fucked up really bad,” he whispered in my ear, making my heart drop.

“Leave it like it is, Liam. It doesn’t matter anymore.”

Yeah, now he’s apologizing. Asshole. These last two weeks, he’d been ignoring the hell out of me after we had argued again because of that shitshow with his mother, and now he’s trying to make amends, expecting me to drop the issue and above all expecting me to open my legs for him. Fuck it. Alice was right to call him a spineless moron.

I remembered my talk with Damien and all the filthy details about what we had done. A wave of arousal washed over my body, followed by a smile spreading across my lips.

With my eyes closed, it was so easy to imagine his touch, his lips, his breath on my skin. Quivering, I felt my pussy throbbing and wetness pooling, but Liam’s voice yanked me back to reality.

“No, Emma, please. We really should talk about this. I know I should have said something. You’re right.”

Sighing, I turned around, and upon looking at him, I remembered Damien again, his image flooding my thoughts. Liam was staring at me with pleading eyes while he caressed my face with his fingers.

Until now, I used to forgive him when he apologized, however...

“I’m really sorry, Emma. I promise you, this is not going to happen again. Please, forgive me,” he whispered.

I noticed the honesty in his eyes, he really seemed to mean it this time, but I was so damn tired of all this drama. His promise felt like too little, too late.

He has never stood up for me before, so why should I trust him now?

Swallowing hard, I avoided his gaze for a few seconds, Damien’s words and face popping through my thoughts. My pulse quickened as I imagined my lover being here, with me, keeping me in his arms, making me feel safe and cherished.

“Please, Emma ... I’m sorry.”

With a soft sigh, I met Liam’s eyes again. I touched his face, brushing my thumb against his lips, and my heart sank realizing how numb I actually felt about my husband. I no longer cared, I was no longer even angry or hurt. I was indifferent.

Fuck it. Why am I wasting time on this topic?

“It’s okay, I forgive you,” I whispered, even if I could feel a trace of doubt gnawing at the edge of my mind.

Can I forgive something and someone I actually no longer really care about?

I wasn’t sure I meant those words, but his face lit up, nonetheless. My husband leaned in closer and kissed me. I responded almost mechanically, and it hurt me to realize how clinical and emotionless that kiss was to me, especially compared with Damien’s.

Liam sneaked his hand along my body, exploring my skin.
